Bedding is a furniture or place used as a bed or rest. Throughout history, beds have grown from simple types, such as straw-filled mattresses to luxury fittings decorated with fabrics. Like many other types of furniture, beds are often viewed as a symbol of social class and wealth.
Most modern beds are made of iron or wood frame (bedstead). Accessories for the added bedding are mattresses for comfort, sheets, blankets and pillows. Bedding can also serve as other furniture, such as being a sofa when not in use. The contents of the mattress can be straw, fur, cotton and artificial filler. Most modern mattresses use springs, hard foam, water, or air.
Below the mattress, usually the box spring. This box is a box-size mattress made of wood and spring that provides additional support and suspension for the mattress. The next layer is usually a bed frame that supports mattresses or boxes per above on the ground.
